September is National Suicide Prevention Month

In Missouri on average, one person dies of suicide every eight hours. 83% of those suicides are by firearm. Sadly, it is easier to get access to a firearm than mental health in Missouri.

There are some solutions:

Suicidal thoughts can be a side effect of certain medications and conditions. Let your doctor know if you are feeling depressed, anxious, or have thoughts of suicide. Feeling better may be a matter of adjusting or changing your medicine.

Convalescence, setbacks, and not being able to do activities you once enjoyed can also create stress and cause grief. These frustrations are completely normal. In some cases they may linger even after recovery. Reach out for help.

If your insurance does not cover mental health, there are counseling services that offer therapy on a sliding fee upon request. If there are limitations to physically going to see a therapist, the National Suicide Hotline is available day and night at 1-800-273-8255 or online at https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/

Mental health is health too.
